As the son of a military officer, I’ve never really been too attached to places. By the time I was in high school, I had lived in 8 states and two countries. I say this not so much as a badge of honor, but to reinforce the argument of “wherever you go, there you are”. It’s been remarked to me that in my adult life “how could you move around so much?” to which I reply, “but how could you stay in one place?” Having said that there are some places that have obvious nostalgic connotation. Tehran, Iran was one, Florida was another, Arkansas another. But beyond that I’m most anticipatory of the place that I have yet to live.

Vashon Island, WA

We lived on Vashon Island for about three years. Was cool for a while but is not too conducive to travel, especially if your on the far side of the island. Its a 20 min drive to the ferry and then a 30 minute ferry to solid ground and then a 15 minute drive to […]

Marquette Electronics

Everyone that ever worked at Marquette Electronics loved it. It was, in my estimation, the best thing that ever happened to me. I was hired at age 23 to be a field engineer – a job I absolutely loved. Back in those days we were equipped to a dual-trace 100 Mhz Tektronics oscilloscope, a Zero […]

Bahamas 1985

I used to work for a very cool company called Marquette Electronics, and every year they would send their Field Engineers down to a different island for some R&R, some training and a great deal of drinking. The first year we went to Grand Bahamas Island, and me and two of my friends skipped out […]

Teheran, Iran

My father was in the military and we were stationed in Teheran (also spelled “Tehran”), Iran from 1972 to 1974. I was in sixth grade, and while that has been forty years in my past, I still remember it vividly. I was in the Boy Scouts and attended Tehran American School (TAS) for two years. […]

Washington State

We moved here in 2008 for my work. Its a beautiful place but does tend to rain too much. Although as I’m writing this its 91 degrees outside and we haven’t had rain in over 2 months. I’ve lived in Bellevue, Vashon Island, Tacoma and now Gig Harbor, where it’s even better.     rdbhttp://www.clinicaltechnology.com

India

I went to India in 2011 when I worked for Lumedx. The purpose of my trip was to work with our engineering team there to kick-start a project to build an ECG management system. At the time, Lumedx was using a 3rd-party software and was paying through the nose for it. I had set-up a […]

Bangkok

Originally I had one blanket blog post about my Asia trip to include Beijing, Bangkok, and Singapore, but Bangkok was sufficiently interesting to warrant it’s own place in the sun, so to speak. Speaking of…it’s hotter than a whore in church here with temps always hovering around 30C or 90ish degrees. Thankfully, I spent a […]

Monaco

I was given “a special award”, (as in the movie “Christmas Story”) from GE back in 2005 and it included a week long trip in Nice, Monaco (stayed at the Grand Hotel), and San Remo, Italy. Got to visit the famed Monaco Casino where a gin and tonic cost 20 bucks. Visited the Old Cathedral […]
